Drema Chuang (Lam)
Instructor & Owner
Drema is a creative and dedicated music educator with a heart for children, music and families. Her desire is to inspire children and adults to develop a lifelong enjoyment of music and to learn to play the piano.
She began learning the piano when she was seven. In 2010, she obtained her Teacher's certification as an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music. She has Kodaly Level 1 training from the University of Alberta. She also holds a bachelor of Family Studies with a minor in Health & Society and a graduate diploma in Christian Studies from Regent College.
She is a member of the Registered Music Teachers Association in B.C. and currently serves on the BCRMTA Vancouver/Burnaby Branch Executive Committee. She continues to develop her musical and teaching skills through further piano lessons, ongoing pedagogy courses, research, connecting with colleagues, and attending local workshops and conferences. When she first began teaching, she learned tremendously through participation in workshops and piano ensemble opportunities in the Student Teachers' Auxiliary of the BCRMTA. Playing in piano duets and ensembles gives her the most joy now!
In 2018, her teaching has been transformed when she stumbled upon the Music Moves for Piano series by Marilyn Lowe and thus discovering Edwin E. Gordon's Music Learning Theory of how we learn music. Discovering how to learn and teach by applying the Music Learning Theory is unlike how she had been taught music growing up in traditional piano lessons and how she has been teaching over the years.
