1. order music books (aug 26)
Long & McQuade at Terminal Avenue has a large selection of music in stock.
Order your books today by:
a) Ordering online and have it delivered

Some tips:
~ Ask for your call to be transferred to Print Music.
~ Check if your book is in stock or needs to be ordered.

2. read studio policy & tuition info

Please take some time to read over the studio policy and tuition page by clicking on the images above or this link: Studio Policy & Tuition.
a) Policy
During the first month of lessons, new students will sign the studio policy as an understanding that they have read it. The signed policy will then be kept in the student binder.
b) Tuition
While prices are going up everywhere, here are some hurrays for being part of the studio:
~ The annual studio fee has remained the same since 2012.
~ Tuition remains the same as last year and covers 35 individual and 35 group classes (including Club Music) as well as studio events.
Important: Tuition invoices will be sent out the week of August 28~September 1. Please email admin@dremasmusicstudio.ca by Saturday, August 26th 2023 to let me know your tuition payment preference:
Option #1: Ten separate cheques of equal amounts (monthly cheques) OR
Option #2: Three separate cheques of different amounts (Sept-Dec, Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun)
Cheques can be submitted during Kick-off Week in an envelope with the student's name on.

4. student profile card (aug 28)
Every year, each student creates a Student Profile card that includes facts about themselves and a current picture. This profile goes on the studio wall so students can get to know one another.
Students only need to submit the photo & information and we will be assembling the profile card at the kick-off.

Time to tune up your piano if you haven't tuned it yet this year! A reminder to set up an appointment with your tuner or call a local music store for a tuner.

Make sure all your keys and pedals are still working and get them fixed if something sounds funny.

If you do not have a piano yet, you can...
- Call up and visit a music store such as Tom Lee or Loewen Piano House to look for an acoustic piano. Acoustic is ideal because the technique we learn in how to play is meant for an acoustic, and it will affect the touch and sound that comes out. There are second-hand acoustic pianos at more affordable prices too. If you want to make sure the piano is in good working condition, it is beneficial to bring a technician along with you, unless it's in a music store already.
- Or if your space does not allow an acoustic, call and visit Long & McQuade for a digital piano or look on Facebook Marketplace. Make sure the digital piano has 88 weighted keys and a sustain pedal. If you are overwhelmed by the options, call me up for some practical tips.
- Or you can rent or rent-and-buy from Tom Lee (acoustic) or Long &McQuade (digital)
Lastly, get your piano space ready...
- Dust off and clear the top of your piano lids of any books or extra items so the piano does not create buzzing sounds.
- Make sure your bench is at a good height and if not, you may need a stool or cushions to sit on.
- If you are getting a new piano, find a place for the piano in your home where you can practice and not be distracted.

9. first week: kick-off (sept 5-7)

Kick-off the year with your piano friends in this first week orientation, profile assembling, binder prep and music games.
Tuesday~Thursday: September 5-7, 2023 Teens/kids: 4:00-5:15pm at the studio Adults: TBD |
Students will attend on the day of their scheduled lesson from 4-5:15pm. You will join the kick-off with others who are on the same day as you. As Monday is Stat holiday, Monday students can pick a day to attend.
